EPEIOS Essence Go Review: A 10-Blade Hand Grinder That Starts Out Light

The EPEIOS Essence Go as our No.2 hand grinder: official specs, Amazon.co.jp review notes, and why the first turns feel so light. A different job from the Timemore S5 Pro. Prices are approximate and change.

The second hand grinder this site recommends is the EPEIOS Essence Go. If the No.1 Timemore Chestnut S5 Pro is the 48mm grinder that stays on the counter, this one uses a 10-blade burr to lighten the start of the grind, and it comes apart into a carry case. It holds that place because the job is different. It is not second place in a points contest.

The price guide we keep on the site is ¥23,100 including tax, taken from the official listing and updated by hand when that listing changes. The June 2024 announcement also gives an expected market price of 23,100 yen including tax, and describes the suggested retail price as open. The photo below is the product photo from the EPEIOS site. Check the current store page before you buy. Prices move.

What I've found using it

It just spins so easily. That is my one-line take. EPEIOS says the grinder was designed for a light start, and that matches the impression from actually turning it. The reviews below keep coming back to the same thing: it turns with very little force.

Specs from the maker

Checked on October 26, 2026 against the official product page, the announcement above, and retailer spec sheets.

  • Supervised by Hidenori Izaki. The official page also introduces him as "the world's No.1 barista"
  • Stainless steel conical burrs. Outer burr 38mm, with 10 blades. Dimensions in the announcement: inner burr Φ29.5×20mm, outer burr Φ38×17mm
  • Grind settings from 0 to 80, with the scale readable from the outside
  • Hopper capacity up to about 30g
  • Body 6.5cm wide by 19cm tall (190mm×65mm). Handle 12.5cm
  • Weight about 0.87kg (about 870g)
  • Body and grounds cup in aluminum alloy, burrs in stainless steel, handle knob in wood
  • Magnetic grounds cup. EPEIOS says it comes apart and fits a dedicated carry case
  • A notice dated January 23, 2025 says the ball on the handle changed from black to a wood tone, and that some internal parts changed from black to silver

EPEIOS says the 10 blades cut friction and lighten the start of the grind. This site has not measured how much force that takes.

What reviewers have written

The stars below are the reviewer's or Amazon's. This site has not re-scored them.

On the Amazon.co.jp product page opened on October 26, 2026 (ASIN B0D3PZHGBX), the rating showed 4.3 out of 5 stars, with 125 global ratings. Amazon notes that this figure is not a simple average. This site did not recount the reviews. The Japanese reviews on that page included these:

  • March 8, 2026, 5 stars, "a grinder with good value." The reviewer likes the finish, the external scale, and a light grind feel even with a light roast, and says it takes longer because of that. The grind is even and extraction stays stable
  • February 1, 2026, 4 stars, "it grinds with a little force." The body of the review says "it is a bit heavy, but it grinds very lightly"
  • December 14, 2025, 5 stars, "a light grind feel, fine adjustment, and a hand grinder that is easy at home or away." The review mentions the 80 steps, how little the handle catches, a bit of weight, and that it comes apart to carry. It also warns that you cannot wash it with water and need a brush

every coffee (November 1, 2024) says at the top of the article that EPEIOS provided the unit. With that in mind, the review lands on a clear aroma and a clean cup at this price, and on a light grind even with hard light-roast beans, with an official price of ¥23,100 including tax. It is a review of a provided unit.

The shared thread is the feel of turning it with little force, and the warning that a finer grind takes longer. The official weight of about 870g is a lighter number than the Chestnut S5 Pro's about 910g. The reviews stop short of calling it a dedicated travel grinder.

Why it is No.2 here

If the S5 Pro stays at home, the second grinder is an Essence Go that fits in its case, shows the scale from the outside, and is listed in the ¥20,000 range. The supervisor's name and the 10-blade burr are the maker's claims. This page does not say the cup tastes better than the S5 Pro. The two grinders do different jobs. The side-by-side is Timemore S5 Pro vs EPEIOS Essence Go.

The No.1 review is the Chestnut S5 Pro. For beans, start with Coffee Carrot (珈琲きゃろっと). That shop page is in Japanese. I kept their subscription for about a year.

This review does not include timed cleaning tests. One Amazon review notes that the grinder is not washed with water and needs a brush. For a first hand grinder, see how to choose. For where to put the 0–80 scale, see the coffee grind size guide. This site does not have a recommended number for each brew method on the Essence Go.
